About Utah Dance Medicine
Utah Dance Medicine was created because dancers face injuries that general sports medicine protocols don't address well. Turnout mechanics, pointe work, hyperextension, performance timelines, and the fact that "rest" isn't an acceptable answer for someone whose livelihood depends on movement all shape how dance injuries should be evaluated and treated.
Every listing on this site has been verified for dance-relevant training or experience. Providers either actively treat dancers in their practice, have trained in dance themselves, or hold credentials through organizations like the International Association for Dance Medicine and Science (IADMS). The directory is free for dancers and free for providers to join.
Coverage area: Utah. Salt Lake City, Provo, Ogden, Park City, St. George, and surrounding communities. For onsite care at intensives, performances, or rehearsal blocks, see the onsite services inquiry form at https://utahdancemedicine.com/onsite.

Taryn completed her Doctorate of Physical Therapy degree at Columbia University and has worked as a Physical Therapist both in-clinic and backstage for the New York City Ballet, the School of American Ballet, and multiple Broadway and Off-Broadway shows in New York City. She was fortunate enough to train under dance medicine pioneer Marika Molnar and has also had the opportunity to treat dancers and performers from Boston Ballet, the Metropolitan Opera, Alvin Ailey, Juilliard schools of dance and acting, American Ballet Theatre JKO school, Twyla Tharp dance company, MOMIX, Ballet Trockadero, SALT Contemporary Dance Company, Ririe Woodbury, Wasatch Contemporary Dance Company, and more. Taryn is fully certified in trigger point dry needling and loves to focus on manual therapy as part of her physical therapy treatments.
Taryn grew up studying dance locally here in Utah in many different styles and has taught tap, jazz, contemporary, hip hop, and ballet. Taryn also had the opportunity to perform in Odyssey Dance Theatre's Thriller. However, after experiencing both personal and students’ injuries, she decided to pursue a career in physical therapy and dance medicine in order to further help all dancers to be at their best performance. After developing her career in New York City, Taryn relocated back to Utah and is happy to give back to the community that raised her.

I have spent over 20 years working with dancers across the community, including professional companies and dance majors at the University of Utah.
Originally from Colorado, I earned my undergraduate degree in kinesiology from the University of Colorado Boulder and my master’s degree in physical therapy from the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center in Denver. I integrate both fields to assess each individual and design personalized treatment programs. While my early career included working with a variety of sports teams and injuries, I now specialize in dance medicine and wellness.
I am an active member of the International Association of Dance Medicine and Science (IADMS) and the Performing Arts Special Interest Group of the American Physical Therapy Association.
My approach to mentoring and treatment is rooted in fully engaging with each patient—evaluating the body as a whole and creating programs that align with their lifestyle. I emphasize hands-on manual therapy complemented by targeted exercises to address imbalances, always considering how interconnected the body is by examining areas above and below the site of dysfunction.
Outside of my professional work, I enjoy spending time with my husband and two children. With my restricted work schedule, I will be enjoying camping, hiking and spending time with my family and friends.

Hi, I’m Kelsie Van Horn, a Doctor of Physical Therapy with a passion for dance medicine and performance-based rehabilitation. I work with dancers and active individuals to recover from injury, optimize performance, and build long-term resilience so they can continue doing what they love.
I earned my Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from the University of Utah, where I also completed my undergraduate studies in Ballet and Kinesiology. As a trained ballet dancer with experience across multiple styles, I understand the demands of performance and how they influence movement and injury risk. I’ve worked with dancers across all levels, from pediatric and pre-professional to collegiate and professional performers.
My clinical experience includes neurologic, pediatric, acute care, aquatic rehabilitation, and international settings. These experiences have shaped a well-rounded, adaptable approach to care—strengthening my focus on motor control, movement quality, and whole-body health. My work in aquatic therapy also led me to develop an Aqua Barre program, blending ballet principles with water-based rehabilitation to build strength, control, and confidence in a low-impact environment.
I take a whole-body, patient-centered and individualized approach, looking beyond the site of pain to assess movement patterns, technique, and contributing lifestyle factors, while blending manual therapy, targeted exercise, and movement retraining to support both recovery and performance.
Outside of the clinic, I enjoy staying active through hiking, exploring new places, and spending time outdoors. I also love traveling and experiencing new cultures, which continues to broaden my perspective and bring balance and curiosity into my work.
